2013 – With your support we can move mountains.
One of the most memorable experiences that happened to me this past year was a brief encounter at a local grocery store. The kid bagging the groceries asked me what my green wrist band signified. I told him it was for St. Baldrick’s, a fund raiser I do every year to help fight childhood cancer. He stopped what he was doing and came over and shook my hand and said "thank you". He showed me the scar on his head from the cancer surgery he had the previous year and told me that he had just finished up chemo. I think I was just barely able to hold back my tears until I got to the car!
We are having an impact with the work we are doing. Shaving my head and being bald for a few months is nothing compared with the support you give me. This young teen was thanking each of you just as much as he was thanking me. He was only a freshman at the local high school and he will hopefully get the opportunity to do 'regular teenage stuff' and have a full and rewarding life ahead of him.
I started shaving my head before I had children. Now that I have my 2 little guys I cannot imagine having to deal with the pain that parents must go through when they are told “your son or daughter has cancer”. Let's work together to prevent any parent from hearing those words.
Please support me in supporting St. Baldrick’s this year. The event is at Fado’s on March 15th, 2013. If you are able to swing by, please join us! You will be moved by all of the love in the air.
