In April I will be donating a foot of my hair to be made into a wig for a child undergoing chemotherapy treatment. As you may know, this treatment causes cell damage to fight cancer, so the cells that grow hair are also affected.
In Ottawa, I have the privilege of being involved in a program at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO buddies). Over the past year, I have developed a relationship with a little girl who is currently hospitalized with Leukemia. The treatment has been tough on her as this is the second time she is fighting this cancer. When she lost her hair, she received a wig from the hospital. This made her so ecstatic it broke my heart. I know my donation will make another little girl just as happy.
I have been trying to grow my hair for FOUR years to be able to donate my hair again.
Any support - whether it be a donation, an effort to learn about childhood cancer, a kind word, or even just reading this and caring about the cause - would speak volumes to me! If you are interested in making a donation, I urge you to learn more about the St. Baldrick's Foundation and where your money would go. The money you donate would go towards funding childhood cancer research, which is looking brighter everyday.
Thanks for your support - in whatever shape or form it may be =)
Sincerely,
-Tiff
