As a breast cancer survivor (14 years on February 22nd), I know what it’s like to go through cancer treatments, and to lose my hair. I can’t imagine what it would be like to have a child go through this horrible experience.
That is why this is my 6th year being involved with the Orange County St. Baldrick's Event, and my 5th year as the Barber Coordinator. That means I'm responsible for getting the barbers to the event, to shave heads and cut ponytails. I have donated my hair several times, to make wigs for women undergoing cancer treatment. Unfortunately, this year, my hair still isn't long enough to donate. I will however, be volunteering now, and throughout the event, to help raise money and awareness for such an incredible cause. At this event, people have their head shaved, to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures. At the Orange County event, people also donate 8" minimum of hair to be used to make wigs for those who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments and the money raised goes to childhood cancer research!
