Childhood cancer has changed my life forever. On Dec 13, 2010, my 7 year old Ethan was diagnosed with AML. He relapsed 6 weeks after he finished his treatment. It took 72 days to get it under control again. We traveled to Duke Nov. 29 2011 for an unrelated umbilical cord transplant. At Duke, they discovered he had leukemia in his kidneys. He had extensive radiation and received his transplant Dec. 27 2011 We came back home in April 2012 and things were going great until July 21 when he woke up with an extremely bad headache. We went straight to the ER where they found a leukemia brain tumor. He received radiation to his tumor and he was doing well. We went in for a normal check up on Thursday August 23 and his electrolytes/labs were off. He was admitted for fluids etc. A few days later he had a small spot on his lungs. Well by that night, they admitted him to the PICU because he was having problems breathing. He died from a fungal infection early Wednesday Aug. 29 2012. Ethan was one of the greatest kids I have ever met. He never complained. He said how he was glad he got cancer and not another child because he knew he could beat it and didn't want anyone else to go through what he did. I do not want another family to go through the pain we did and are still going through. I've answered the call to be a hero! I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures.
Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.
Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!
