On September 13, 2007 at 3:30 pm I was told that my son Jack had a brain tumor the size of a tennis ball in his head. At first, I did not know if Jack would live through the month or even that day. The answers and treatment came throughout the next months. Jack was diagnosed at the age of two and since that diagnosis he has endured more than fifteen surgeries; and more than 200 weeks of chemotherapy. I cannot answer people when they ask me how “we” do it. I believe that being involved in charities like St. Baldricks allows me to be a conduit to raise money and awareness for this deadly disease which allows me to remain positive and continue this battle.
I’m writing to ask you to join me in one of two ways: You can do what I’m doing, or you can support me with a donation for childhood cancer research! What am I doing? I’m going to have my head shaved at a St. Baldrick’s Foundation event. Please come out and watch the fun on March 3rd at Kitty Hoynes Pub in Syracuse.
With my bald head, I’ll stand in solidarity with my son Jack and other kids being treated for cancer. But the real point of all this is to raise money for life-saving research. I’m doing it for Jack, infants, children, teens and young adults fighting cancer. While it’s especially hard to think of kids fighting cancer, I’m also glad to know that some of the research supported by this foundation ultimately helps to fight all cancers.
Please make a donation on my head and come watch us “Shaving the Way to Conquer Kids’ Cancer!”

I can assure you this gift will be used responsibly. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants. This is a volunteer-driven charity, which keeps fundraising costs low and grants high. In 2012 alone, St. Baldrick’s granted more than $23 million for research – almost all raised by more than 31,000 “shavees” like me, from people like you!
You can give online (search for me at www.StBaldricks.org) or by phone (888-899-BALD). Credit cards are the most efficient way to give, or you can write a check payable to “St. Baldrick’s Foundation.” I’ll be collecting pledges. This is a fun way to do something very important. Thank you for your support!
