As most of you know, I am a pediatric oncologist at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital. I treat children diagnosed with cancer. When I deliver the news to my patients and their families that they have been diagnosed with cancer, it is obviously a devastating time for them. At some point, our conversation always makes it to the topic of hair and if it is going to fall out. I've always been very straightforward in answering this question..."It will fall out and it will grow back."
Well, now its my turn to share in part of my patient's experience and St. Baldrick's gives me the perfect opportunity to do this......I AM GOING TO SHAVE MY HEAD.
On September 15, I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with my patients that are fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures. St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity that has raised over $100 million to fund childhood cancer research grants.
Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. Please click "Make a donation" to give online and PLEASE FORWARD MY EMAIL OR FACEBOOK LINK TO ANYONE YOU THINK WOULD BE WILLING TO HELP.
