Dear Friends, Family and Colleagues, I am going bald again next month for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, a charity that raises money for kids with cancer. My sixth date with the barber is fast approaching: Friday, March 13, at Fado's Irish Pub, 100 W. Grand Ave. in Chicago. Losing my hair is part of the annual St. Baldrick's Day celebration, in which men and women volunteers shave their heads to raise pledges of financial support for cancer research. The head shaving displays solidarity with kids who have cancer, many of whom lose their hair during chemotherapy treatments. Over the years, St. Baldrick's has raised hundreds of millions of dollars. In 2008, more than $17 million was raised by about 27,000 shavees, going toward pediatric cancer researchers.
