Celebrating 25 Years

St. Baldrick’s started as a grassroots effort 25 years ago, driven by people who believe in helping kids with cancer.

I am blessed to have a healthy 6 year old daughter. Some parents are not so fortunate. Their “little treasures” have been dealt an ugly challenge: childhood cancer.

The courage and faith of these kids is amazing. Even on the worst days, they seem to dig deep and remain positive, inspiring everyone around them. In the course of their treatment, many of these children involuntarily lose their hair.

I have always had a full head of hair. In solidarity with these young heroes, I’m willing to go bald … that is, if my friends, family, and colleagues are willing to make a donation to help find a cure for childhood cancer. I will be one of 300+ "shavees" at the Portland Saint Baldrick’s Day event on Saturday, May 19th. If you donate, you are more than welcome to come to Oaks Park at noon to laugh at me. This year I will be part of the Timbers Army team (RCTID!).

The Saint Baldrick’s Foundation is doing amazing work. In the past 11 years, this national, grassroots effort has raised $113,000,000+ for childhood cancer research! Some of the grants have even been awarded to OHSU, Doernbecher, Emmanuel, and Shriners here in Portland. And we’re winning the battle one step at a time!

For Sherry, Rileigh Ann, and I, supporting Saint Baldrick’s is a family priority. All three of us have been working to recruit shavees and raise funds throughout the past year.

Please be as generous as your means allow. Thanks!
