It's good to be back! After being unable to participate in last year's event, I'm making up for lost time by going all out for this year's St. Baldrick's event at Napper Tandy's!
By the time the event date hits on March 10, it will be nearly 10 months since my last haircut. And, thanks to Movember and Decembeard, I'm rocking a beard that would make Zach Galafianakis proud. So this year, it will be a hugely dramatic change once I go under the clippers!
As always, voting on a beard style to be sported for just about a week after the event will be allowed to all donors. This year's options are: Evil Spock (goatee), Hulk Hogan (fu manchu), Jay Buhner (chin only), Burt Reynolds (seriously), Chester A. Arthur (mutton chops/mustache combo), Wolverine (mutton chops), Howie Mandel (soul patch), Amish Farmer (beard with no 'stache), and Alex "Starburns" from Community (star-shaped sideburns). I have a feeling I know what's going to win, but we'll go through with the formality of voting anyway.
And also as always, and even more important, the real reason for doing this cannot be forgotten. St. Baldrick's is a great foundation doing amazing things to help raise money to fight for a cure for children's cancer. Sad as it may seem, just about everyone in our society knows someone who has been affected by cancer. As most of you know, my wife Elise is a survivor of leukemia; my grandmother and grandfather were not so lucky. Several co-workers and friends have also been affected in some way, shape or form - but worst of all is when a child has to go through this horrific ordeal.
Please please please make a donation, and spread the word to family, friends, other loved ones - hell, even send it to your enemies to help me reach my fundraising goal. I know times are tough, but if every one of just my Facebook friends donated just $1, that would raise over $300 and get me more than halfway to my goal. If everyone gave just $5, that's $1500 and triple my goal. Every little bit helps, and even in these tough economic times (which, believe me, I know all too well) a $5 donation shouldn't break the bank too much. Even just a single dollar - less than the cost of a cup of coffee! - will help in the fight against children's cancer.
Thanks guys, love you all!
