As many of you know, on July 8, 2011 my granddaughter, Scarlett, was diagnosed with the beginning stages of Leukemia. As of today, Scarlett is done with her chemotherapy and I'm happy to say she's in remission. However, not every child is as lucky as Scarlett. While she was in the hospital, my son and daughter-in-law witnessed first-hand the miracle of medical science. They also saw that despite the advances our doctors and scientists have made in fighting childhood cancer, there's still a lot of research that needs to be done. In Scarlett's pursuit for her life, she became a hero to many and I want to stand in solidarity with her and all the children who are battling cancer. Therefore, I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures. I know many of you already donate to various causes throughout the year, but please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. Even the smallest donation matters and goes a long way. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government. Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. If you would like to donate please click here www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/521317/2012. Once you click on the link you can donate by clicking on “Make a Donation” on the left side of the page or you can also donate by phone or mail. If it is easier, you can also give the donation to me or Judy and I in the form of check/cash and we will submit it against the team goal. The event takes place on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at Martin’s East in Baltimore. If you would like to be part of the event as a volunteer or would like to join my team as a ‘shavee’, please contact me at the email address below. I thank you for visiting our page and reading my message, but more importantly supporting children like Scarlett. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at lucasjkl@comcast.net or Judy at lucasj@brightwoodliving.org. Please feel free to forward this email to anyone you know who may be interested in supporting my quest to raise money for a cure. Thank you and God bless.
