I've answered the call to be a hero! I've just had my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures. This was my third time shaving my head for this wonderful cause, having also shaved in 2004 and 2008. I have in the past participated in the memory of my cousin Michelle, who died of colon cancer at age 30. I believed then, as I do now, that no parent should have to watch their child die. Now that I am a parent myself, that conviction is even stronger. I cannot even imagine, and hope I never have to experience, what these amazingly strong parents have had to go through.
40 years ago, cancer was almost always fatal in children. Now, the cure rate is almost 90% for some types of cancer, and is constantly rising. However, some types of cancer have been resistant to new therapies, and much work needs to be done.
Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U. S. government. Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!
