The definition of courage is: "mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty."

I've been thinking of different things to say on this particular part of my St Baldrick's website and I kept coming back to the definition of courage. Many people (myself included) spend their whole lives wondering what is courage, what does courage look like and most importantly..Do they have courage? For most of us it is the small victories in our daily lives that reassure us we have courage. For others it is an almost insurmountable obstacle that they are faced with and it becomes a fight for their own existence which determines if they possess courage. St. Baldricks is filled with stories such as these...little kids who haven't had a chance to experience the joys of life that we all too easily take for granted. All they know is they are sick and they have to go to the doctor alot and put up with much discomfort, pain and unpleasantries. What they don't realize is that they are the epitome of courage to all of us who are in their support network, however even the most courageous warrior needs support and that is where we all can play a role. Through our financial donations and/or involvement in St Baldricks we can help researchers find better treatments for cancer hopefully saving a few lives or extending them a bit longer. Which leads me to these two requests of you. 1. Financial....no amount is too small...however I know these aren't the best of times so that leads me to request #2. Read about St Baldricks...look at the kids who are profiled...spread the word...Join our team.

Oh..I forgot one little thing..last year Allan Hilsinger, his son Jayden and I formed "Team Joey" to support a close friend of ours' son who was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 6...after a grueling two years he is on the road to recovery...I'd like to think the $5,000 dollars we've raised the past 5 years has helped in some small way to help him confront his tumor.

We would love to have more "shavees" join our team...its only hair and it does grow back!

In the beginning of this paragraph I gave you the Webster definition of courage...if you would like to see what courage in the "human" form looks like check out "Joey T." as the child we've honored.

"You make a living by what you earn, you make a life by what you give..."

Thank you for your time,

Respectfully,

Dave Speiser, Allan and Jaden Hilsinger aka "Team Joey."..

I read this today and had to include it on my page...another example of courage..
