Why am I participating? To stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, who typically lose their hair during treatment. More importantly, I'm doing it to raise funds for childhood cancer research! Worldwide, more than 160,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. The St. Baldrick's Foundation partners with organizations around the world to fund childhood cancer research. We must all do everything we can to give kids a better chance for a cure. To support me on behalf of these very special kids, please click "Make a Donation" above, or donate by mail or phone.
5 years ago, I happened upon an expectant mom's group for babies to be born in September, 2006. Since that time, we have grown with each other, laughed, cried and bickered. And we had to watch one mom fight for her son's life after being diagnosed with neuroblastoma. I don't know if there are words to describe how I felt for her, their whole family - to be helpless and watch this happening - and to see them lose him. I don't want other parents to go through this. To have to watch a child fight for their lives is heartbreaking, and I don't know how Jo and Tony did it - they are among the strongest people I have had the pleasure of 'knowing'. So I am doing this to fight against the cancers that plague our children, and fighting for the research that could save their lives. I'm honouring Dante, and hoping for a better future. Every little bit helps, $5, $10, whatever. In the end it could be the difference for someone's child.
