I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Team AJ Renner aka Team Alica

"Hair grows back. Kids don't." (46 Mommas / St. Baldrick's Foundation)

That's right - I'm shaving my head again this year. A few people have asked why I am shaving again (yes - again! In case you've forgotten, I shaved in 2008!). There are thousands of reasons - a new one every 3 1/2 minutes in fact - but no one single story inspired this decision.

This past year, I met a 9 week old baby who had just finished his 7th week of chemo. I watched an old friend suffer through some long terms affects of his treatment for childhood cancer more than 30 years ago. And I attended the wake of the first patient I ever met through St. Baldrick's - Chris will always be the 'face' of St. Baldrick's for me.

Lots of great survivor stories too. We celebrated Alicia's 20th Birthday at our Halfway to St. Baldrick's event in September. Josh organized a St. Baldrick's event at his school, and had his own head shaved for the 3rd time since finishing his treatment in 2010 (and will be wielding the clippers when I get shaved in March)! And so many more - check out the stories of the kids I am honoring to find out more!

And, of course, there are the families who have become my friends over the years. Parents of our survivors, and parents of our angels, who continue to fight the fight so other families won't have to go through what their family has experienced. Friends that I wish I had never had reason to meet, but who I treasure dearly, and who show me such strength and conviction through their journey. One of those moms told me "You meet the nicest people in Cancerville". But we do this for the day when we can all leave Cancerville.

Please donate. Today. And a lot. EVERY 3 1/2 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer. One in Five will not survive.
