I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I am participating in Lane Tech's St. Baldrick's day event on Thursday, April 14th. Thanks to all of you who supported my fundraising efforts two years ago. This year I am raising money in honor of my student Nancy Perez. Nancy is a Lane Tech senior who was diagnosed with a malignant Rhaboid Tumor during her sophomore year. Since that time she has been undergoing various treatments and surgeries to shrink and eliminate the tumor. While there were some early successes, more recent treatments have not been effective and her tumor continues to grow. However, she is working with a team at Children's Memorial Hospital that is monitoring her progress and adjusting her treatment as necessary. I met Nancy last year when I was assigned as her homebound instructor. In that capacity I visited her home on most school days and gave her instruction in all subject areas. Even though she was not able to attend school during her junior year, she was able to complete all of her coursework and earned a 3.5 GPA for the year. This year she has been trying to attend school more regularly and looks forward to graduation. Following graduation, Nancy intends to apply her interest in the biological sciences to pursue a degree in nursing. Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government. Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you! DOD
