You heard it right - I'm shaving my head in solidarity with children who have cancer and typically lose their hair during treatment, while raising critical funds for childhood cancer research!
In the US, more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease. Please make a donation on my behalf to support childhood cancer research so that all children diagnosed with cancer will have a better chance for a cure.
Those of you that know me, know that kids have a special place in my heart. I have been involved in volunteering and donating my time in youth sports since 1993 and with my non-profit youth soccer development program that I started with a group of good friends in 2009. www.fcwarriors.org
Since I began my professional career in 1995, I have raised over ten thousand dollars for the Boulder Dam Council for their local Boy Scouts Chapter. As a child I was in involved in the Scouting program and feel it is vital to a growing boy's development. I feel that St. Baldrick’s Foundation is an excellent organization for me to get involved with and help raise money to support childhood cancer research.
Some of you may also know that our family just celebrated our youngest child's (Keller) 4th birthday yesterday (2/14/2011). When Keller was 4 months old we discovered that he had a lump that was getting bigger on the left side of his body. As parents we were very concerned and worried. After many doctor visits, testing and consultations with specialists we discovered that the abnormal growth was a “Lymphangioma”, and not cancer, but it needed to be removed quickly. Keller soon had his surgery and has since recovered. He is a happy healthy 4 year old boy that loves his cars, monster trucks and trains.
During the short time of dealing with the unknown when the doctors were trying to figure out what was going on with our son, our family understood a little bit of the stress that a family and the kids may have to go through with a possible cancer diagnosis. We also have some friends whose son was diagnosed with cancer and saw their heartache as they went through their journey. That is the reason why I’m participating in this awesome event to help raise money to support the children diagnosed with cancer to give them a better chance for a cure and to recover.
No child or family should have to go through this time alone. Please help me show support to those families and children that are going through this tough time. Help show that we are behind them and are willing to support them by donating some of your hard earned money to help support this event. Thank you!
