It’s almost time for the official arrival of spring, which holds a couple of certainties. Of course, it means we’ll see the arrival of longer days, warmer weather, rising sap, and budding vegetation. But, it also means you’ll soon witness another “baldheaded David Winkles”… on March 26, IF you help me raise enough money again this year for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the annual fundraiser for children’s cancer research.
Yes, thanks to your generous support in my honor towards this community service project in the past, I was motivated to sign up once again this year as a “shavee” - that’s a person who raises money for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and allows his head to be shaved as a sign of support for all the kids who lose their hair during cancer treatments.
Last year I entered the event late, and with only one week before the mid-March finale you helped me attain the prestige as the top individual fundraiser in the state with more than $4500.00 raised. I hope that I can count you to be among my most generous and caring friends and associates and humbly ask you to consider another generous gift to the cause this year.
From time to time as I sit on the floor playing with one of our beautiful grandchildren, I can’t fathom how much life is different for entire families after a diagnosis of a childhood cancer. I know that I cannot come close to realizing what people in those cases must go through. Thankfully, Cas and I have three healthy grandchildren. My hope today is that no child should ever suffer from this disease. We can join forces today to help make that a reality.
Last year “shaves” like me and donors like you, raised more than $21 million for children’s cancer research. The St. Baldrick’s website (www.stbaldricks.org) is a great place to donate towards this cause or to see where your donations have gone in the past. You may make donations through the internet with a credit card or by using the form from the website to mail a check or money order directly to the Foundation. Regardless of how you give, please designate your gift under my name so I can show people what a great community of generous caring friends and associates that I have.
I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures.
Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.
Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!
