You heard it right - I'm shaving my head in solidarity with children who have cancer and typically lose their hair during treatment, while raising critical funds for childhood cancer research!
So far in my life, I am so lucky to not have lost a child close to me to this disease, and I count myself so very lucky for that. However, I have friends that have; like my friend Pam who lost her nephew Aiden. I know their hearts are broken and their lives will never be the same. My family members have friends and coworkers that have lost children to cancer or have children that are currently battling it. Having my head shaved is going to put me in the shoes of the cancer patient. The children who benefit from the fundraising of St. Baldrick’s Foundation are fighting for their lives and to show my support to them by standing next to them with a bald head is a very strong statement. This disease doesn’t care who you are, how old you are, where you live or what you want to be when you grow up. Cancer doesn’t care who your parents are and what they want for your life or how hard they may have fought just to bring you into this world. It does not care how hard your brothers, sisters, grandparents, aunts & uncles, cousins, and best friends are fighting to keep you here. That is why we have to fight so much harder against cancer to find a cure for it. No one should lose a child to any disease; no parent should have to list their child’s status as “angel”. We as Americans always wait till something hits home to take action. Why should I wait to watch a child I love go through this to do something about it? I'm taking a stand now. So why don't you stand with me and please make a donation on my behalf to support childhood cancer research so that all children diagnosed with cancer will have a better chance for a cure. In the US, more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease.
