You heard it right - I'm shaving my head again in solidarity with children who have cancer and for my friend Benjamin. Thank you for donating whatever you can spare. Its been a year since Ben was diagnosed with leukemia and a lot has happened. I asked Ben's mom to write an update on what's taken place the past year.....
Benjamin was almost three when diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and until the day he was diagnosed acted as many other young boys. He is a sweet little guy who loves watching things in motion, roller coaster rides, and giving great big hugs. His diagnosis came as a surprise, although his blood was 97% saturated with Cancer and his liver and spleen were already enlarged. The Cancer was aggressive and he had it for months. It took almost 9 months to get through the 6 month intense weekly chemo treatments due to low blood levels. He spent a couple of months in the hospital and had several trips to the ER, but was able to stay home during most of the treatment. Luckily, he was in remission 28 days after diagnosis, so no bone marrow transplant was needed. He is now in the 4th and final round of chemo that will last another 2 1/2 years. He has monthly visits to the clinic for chemo and will continue to get spinals on some visits. Benjamin has been a true superhero to everyone that knows him. We ask a lot of cancer kids… and they never complain. Benjamin, like many other cancer kids is a true angel in our lives! Thanks to organizations, like St. Baldricks, we had a very happy 1 year anniversary of Benjamin's Diagnosis.
