I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Sam I Am

I am very proud to be the captain for team "Sam I am". Our team name honors the memory of my friend Sam Marx and celebrates his life. We are so thankful God graced us with the gift of Sam. As our team page details, Sam lived more in his short life than many live over several years. His leadership in helping others was lived throughout his life including boy scouts, student body president of Evergreen High School (Vancouver, WA) and active member of the trumpet players/parishoners of Holy Redeemer Parish. Even at his beloved Notre Dame university, he lived and inspired others despite fighting the ravishing effects of his illness. Sam was never defined by his illness, his living defied his illness. He inspired me through his leadership, bravery and courage. He embraced St. Baldrick's as leading the way towards a cure for Kids Cancer. He and I organized the Vancouver St. Baldrick's event in 2009 that with the help of many volunteers and shavees raised over $34,000. My favorite Sam memory is the quote from his graduation speech at Evergreen High School. "Remember, no one in invincible so relish and nurture what you have. Don't be afraid of challenges for they are inevitable. Fear of challenges will immobilize you and prevent you from taking part in and enjoying the present and the process. How you deal with challenges will define the quality of your life and the success of your future" We are Sam, Sam I am.
