I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I’m going to do something pretty extreme, and I’m asking for your support. I’m going to have my head shaved at a St. Baldrick’s Foundation event on Thursday, March 17th, 2011, at Jim Brady’s in New York City.

With my bald head, I’ll stand in solidarity with kids being treated for cancer. But that’s not the main reason. Most important, I’m doing this to raise money for life-saving research. Over the last several years, thousands of volunteers like me have raised more than $56 million for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation provides resources for cancer research, and unlike many other charities who take 15% or more of every dollar raised to fund internal operating expenses, every dollar raised through the St. Baldrick’s Foundation goes directly to fund childhood cancer research. And, as an IRS recognized charity, your donation is tax deductible.

Please make a donation on my head, and if your schedule permits, come watch me and others “shaving the way to conquer kids’ cancer!” This is a fun way to do something very important. And, how can you pass up an opportunity to support someone who has not had a haircut since May of 2010, just to ensure that there would be enough hair hitting the floor to make sure that your donations are worth it!

To see my donor names, fundraising progress, and before and after photos, visit my page on the
St. Baldrick’s website. Please help me reach my goal of $15,000.

You can count on this donation being used responsibly. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives.

In 2010 alone, they gave over $14 million – that’s more in grants for childhood cancer research than any other organization except the U.S. government. And all because nearly 38,000 people shaved their heads!

You can give directly online (search for Steve Hartman at www.StBaldricks.org) or by phone (888-899-BALD). Credit cards are the most efficient way to give, or you can write a check payable to
“St. Baldrick’s Foundation.” Checks can be mailed to St. Baldrick’s Foundation, 1333 S. Mayflower Avenue, Suite 400, Monrovia CA 91016. Also, don’t forget to get your employer involved since many companies have matching gift programs. Every dollar we raise counts!

On behalf of some very special kids, thank you for your support! I have been blessed with healthy children, and I appreciate this every day. I believe that no child should have to suffer from cancer in any or its forms, and it doesn’t matter to me if the child is a 9 year old at St. Benedict’s in Holmdel, New Jersey, a 14 year old in San Diego, California, or a child of an old friend in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Please help me raise money to help eradicate childhood cancer.

Sincerely,

Steve Hartman
