I love giving the gift of myself. My senior year of high school I donated 10 inches of my waist-length hair to Locks of Love, a non-profit dedicated to making wigs and hairpieces for young girls suffering from childhood cancer and other ailments like alopecia. My freshman year of college, I chopped off about 7 inches of my short bob for Locks of Love. I’m starting to run out of hair! In the past, I have been a frequent blood donor with the American Red Cross and the New York Blood Center. Last year, I also registered to be a bone marrow donor.
Many of you know why this cause is so important to me, and know why it is so hard hitting! Please help me raise funds so children never have to suffer though cancer, chemotherapy, radiation, and other procedures. Children should be running around in playgrounds worrying about getting cooties, not laying in hospital beds worrying about transfusions, injections, etc!
I have five beautiful nieces (Julia 7, Lynda 4, Christina 3, Casey 4, and Sophia 3 months) and one handsome little nephew (Topher 4) who I love with all of my heart. The thought of one of them hurt, sick, or in need breaks my heart. If any of them needed someone to stand in solidarity for them I would want each and every one of you to answer that call. By taking this step, and shaving my head, I am standing up for someone's niece, nephew, child, or friend.
