As we sit here bundled up on the coldest day in Chicago (it was -10 this morning on my way to the train), I wanted to let everyone know that I'll be shaving my head. Yes...shaving my head for childhood cancer research. St. Baldrick's Foundation raises money to help find a cure for childhood cancer. Last year alone, St. Baldrick's raised over $22 million and has funded more than $55 million in grants since 2005. Amazing figures for a charity started by 3 drunk guys looking for a way to give back.
With that said - one month from tomorrow (March 11th) I will be going under the clippers again. This will be my 6th year. I ask for your support as we help find a cure for these little guys and girls. It's not fair that besides losing their hair they also have part of their childhood taken away. I've said this before and I'll said it again...kids should be playing in the mud, playing with Barbies, using scissors and cutting their own hair (personal experience), or throwing rocks at cars (again personal experience). All the things kids do and some of them don't get that opportunity. Through my involvement in St. Baldrick's, I've met numerous kids who have been stricken with some form of cancer. What I find is that these kids are amazingly strong. Even having gone thru chemo and radiation, these kids are all smiles. They are true heroes.
Your help is needed as St. Baldrick's continues to fund grants and fellowships to hospitals and research centers around the world.
