I have been the treasurer for the St.Baldrick's Columbia event since we began in 2007. For the first time, I am also going to participate as a shavee. During the past five years that I have been so lucky and honored to be involved, I have met some of the most courageous and loving people. From having the opportunity to tour the wonderful facility at Palmetto Richland Children's Hospital, where these precious children are treated by an incredible group of doctors and staff, to meeting some of the children and families that have to endure the horrific pain and suffering that this horrible disease causes. To hear their stories and see the precious faces of these children going through treatment and losing their hair-not by choice, is heartbreaking. Out of the many children I met, the two things they never lost was their faith and hope.
It is my choice and in their honor, and in some cases memory, that I am shaving my head. I strongly believe, and teach my own children, that beauty is on the inside. Life is short. Live each day to the fullest and thank God for each and every one. Don't sit out....."I HOPE YOU DANCE!" (Song by Lee Ann Womack).
Please support me in this battle! Let's Beat This Thing!
With head-shaving and other fundraising events, this volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization, except the U.S. government. Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!
