It all started with a desire to not have long hair during the heat of next Texas' summer which lead to a decision to donate the length of cut off hair to one of those charities making wigs for kids who've lost their hair due to sickness. Then I thought "You know, there really isn't much difference between a couple inches of hair on my head and no hair on my head. I'm going to shave my head for St. Baldrick's Foundation!"
And so ... a plan was born.
After announcing my decision to my friends, family, and other associates, they were all firmly in two groups: those who thought I was insane, but are supportive of my plan, and those who know I am insane, but are supportive of my plan ... and they all know better than to argue with me once I'm on a mission! I'm a little stubborn that way.
I won't say I'm not a little nervous about not having hair for a while (OK, maybe a lot nervous), and I won't say I'm not worried about how people will react to me without hair ('cause I am a little worried), but for me, this was a decision. For the children who are fighting and dying due to cancer, they don't get to decide. It's just something that happens while they struggle to kill the disease that's trying to kill them. So I'm going to work through my fears, my worries, and possibly some damaged vanity to stand beside them in bald glory while doing my best to raise funds that may one day ensure no child ever has to face the harsh realities of cancer again.
I'm going to do my part, now it's time for you to do yours! Please make a donation on my behalf to support childhood cancer research so that all children diagnosed with cancer will have a better chance for a cure. Together, we can conquer this!
