My sons and I are going to shave our heads to raise money for Pediatric Cancer research.
When our twins were born they spent 9 weeks at Children's Hospital of Orange County. They were admitted to the highest level of care available. The kids are fine now but you can imagine who they roomed with. Literally each day I encountered children and families with ailments far more grave than my son's. Some days I'd show up and my son's NICU neighbors would just be gone.
The events of those 9 weeks were without question one of the most heart wrenching, corrective perspective adjusting periods of my life. The posture and distant eyes of a parent losing or having lost hope is something I will never forget. It's been close to six years and I swear I remember faces as if it were yesterday. No child or parent should have to experience pediatric cancer. When my son Jack brought the St Baldrick's Pediatric Cancer Research opportunity to us we all jumped in. Hopefully our simple gesture can do something to knock the disease back on its heels.
My sons (the NICU twins included) and I hope that you pledge to the cause. I'm providing a link to our families pledge site. My son Jack is the person we are doing the event with so Jack S. is our group name. We'll put a before picture a week before the shave. Save the link as I'm sure you'll want to see the "after" photo of my sons and me. www.stbaldricks.org/participants/sedgwicks
