I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Magellan Charter School

Hi! Elizabeth is going to participate in St. Baldrick's again this year. St. Baldrick's is an organization that raises money to find a cure for childhood cancers in a fun and innovative way. It is fun because lots of people gather to support you as you and the rest of your team have your head shaved . Sounds strange to have a child, especially a girl, have her head shaved. That is the innovative part. Heads are shaved in empathy and solidarity with those who have lost their hair because of chemotherapy treatments. After Elizabeth shaved her head last year, more and more awareness to the fight against childhood cancers was raised because of all the questions or looks Elizabeth received. Folks naturally thought Elizabeth had cancer. We would quickly tell them that by the Grace of God, Elizabeth was healthy. But that she had shaved her head to raise money and awareness for the prevention of childhood cancer. In August of 2007, our 8 year old neighbor, Colleen Moore was diagnosed with OsteoSarcoma. Elizabeth did not know Colleen well, but they lived in the same neighborhood and rode the same bus. Colleen's illness really touched Elizabeth. She prayed for Colleen every night and at every meal. Sadly, Colleen lost her battle to cancer in June of 2008. It was very hard for Elizabeth to understand. When Magellan was gearing up for St. Baldrick's in 2009, Elizabeth wanted to be a part of it so she could do something about the horrible disease. She had her head shaved and really never looked back. She raised over $2,000.00 thanks to many generous people and is determined to do it again. Will you please support Elizabeth and donate to St. Baldrick's? No amount is too small - it all adds up. And of course, no amount is too big either. :) God Bless you all.
