Hello Friends,
Five years ago I joined a team of Dewitt Firefighters for my first St. Baldricks experience. I knew that St. Baldricks was an organization that rasied money to fight childhood cancer , and held events worldwide where participants like myself had our head's shaved with the support of donations raised from friends and family. That first event helped me understand what St. Baldricks was truly about when I listened to three local families and their children talk about what it was like to live with childhood cancer and how events like this had touched them directly with funds raised localy staying local.
The next year is where my St. Baldricks experience became a lifelong commitment and one that would be joined by the youngest member of my family. I brought my then 3 yeard old son Jamison with me to the pre-event breakfsat at the Firehouse and he joined the team at Kitty Hoynes as we listtened to the families of Isabella and Micheal talk about their uphill battle with this dreaded disease. Both these children were 3 just like Jamison. As I took my place in the barber chair and was shaved bald Jamo cheered loudly and even took a couple passes with the clippers. When I was done I left the chair and headed to the restroom to see what the damage was. As I was walking a huge cheer erupted and as I turned back grab Jamison's hand I realized the cheering was for him. Jamison hopped up into the barber chair and was determined that he too would have his head shaved for this cause. I breifly tired to negotiate with this three year old but he ended any question when he said " I want to beat up cancer too Daddy" !
I know that so many of you are being personally affected by cancer as we speak , and I know that right now the last thing anybody has is extra money. If you could please take a moment and watch the video link I have provided http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLYvYmlfplo . It is titled "Lights, Camera Aiden", and was St. Baldricks national video last year . This video really says what it is all about and Jamiosn and I watched it last year together crying througfh many parts and feeling inspired by all of it. To our surprise about 3/4 through the video is a picture of Jamiosn on my shoulders after he had been shaved that very first year. Thanks you all for your support of this wonderful cause that aims to "beat up" a dreaded diease.
