This will be Tye's fifth year shaving - his fourth for his sister, Cassidy, who underwent 21 rounds of chemotherapy for brain cancer during the pandemic. The first year, we didn't know she had cancer...Tye shaved, and Cassidy cut, only six months before our lives were devastated by the diagnosis. But this year, he is also shaving for our friends, the McRoberts, who lost their daughter on 12/22 last year. Caroline was 11 years old. She, too, had brain cancer.
We should not have to bury our babies.
And yet, one in five kids diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. will not survive.
For those who do survive, more than 96% have severe or life-threatening conditions by the time they are 50. Almost all of these are secondary to the antiquated treatments that they must undergo.
Right now, more than ever, we need help with funds. Only 4% of the NCI budget has historically been given to kids with cancer. And now, those funds are being further cut. Teams working to find cures are being dismantled. And it is kids like Cassidy and Caroline - real people - who will suffer the consequences.
These kids need more than a standing ovation. They need research. They need a cure.
Your gift will give kids and their families hope, supporting the best research across the country, through the largest charity funder of childhood cancer research grants, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
Together, let’s give these kids the lifetime they deserve. Thank you for your support!
