I am shaving to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Team Teddy

I'm pretty into the idea of capitalism, but capitalism often doesn't do the job for curing kids with cancer. Investors do not rush to fund pediatric cancer treatments. There are not millions of kids getting sick from similar cancers in a way that entices drug companies striving for a desired return on investments for their shareholders.

Instead, there are hundreds of thousands of kids getting sick from many dissimilar cancers. Smallish "markets" are not a big draw for investors. That is why so much of the work to treat pediatric cancers relies heavily (or solely) on private donations and government funding. Without these, there will be little or no progress.

When Teddy was diagnosed with "Undifferentiated Sarcoma" there were ZERO treatments for it. ZERO. The doctors did the next best thing to doing nothing, which was to treat him for another pediatric sarcoma called Rhabdomyosarcoma. Not only did it not work, but it was brutal, put him into a coma during treatment, caused him to spend many of his last days on earth feeling sicker from the "treatment" than the disease itself.

Research is the only path out of this unfortunate all-too-familiar and tragic loop. And research relies on the empathy and generosity of you as taxpayers (through government funding) and you as members of society (through donations to not-for-profits).

SO, THANK YOU! Thank you for your empathy and generosity. Thank you for understanding: because you have been through this, or because you live by the words "there but for the grace of God go I".

God bless all of you for everything you do to make the world a better place.
