I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Kuttin for Kids

Why am I shaving my head?

I have shaved my head at every local St. Baldrick’s event since 2007. In that time, I participated in the roles of a Volunteer event organizer, team leader, shavee and event volunteer depending on the event. I shaved remotely during the pandemic, had honored children shave me, and during the pandemic my children shaved me as a remote shave.

Since the pandemic, this event has reduced in volume.  Number of shavees has dwindled as have donations. At the peak, this event would receive $50k in donations.

Meanwhile, i have been an oncology nurse since 2011. In 2018, I became a clinic nurse an adult sarcoma clinic. I have recently learned that many sarcomas are both pediatric and adult cancers. Others, like Ewings Sarcoma, are primarily pediatric cancers. But I have had patients fro 19 yo to 88 yo diagnosed with Ewings.

Bottom line, I have been shaving my head for childhood cancers, dedicating my career to adult cancers, and realizing how connected they are.

My event is remote this year, but I am still shaving. I have less and less hair but grow it to have more in the floor.

Heck, I LOOK LIKE DILBERTS BOSS. I hate long hair and grow it only for this event.

So….please help me raise money for childhood cancer research and help some adult cancer cancer patients as well.

REMOTE SHAVE TODAY. WATCH FOR ME.

My Roles:

  • Shavee
  • Event Support Volunteer
