Why am I shaving my head, and why should you care?
in addition to the provided information below i want to share personally, why i am doing this.
as so may others, TOO many others, my life has been affected by cancer. cancer has claimed the lives of too many people i love. including my dad, 5 years ago. he was my rock. i miss him every day. he was there for me 12 years ago, when i went through 7 weeks of radiation for a benign brain tumor. he would sit with me in that boring, grey, sad waiting room. and it was. so it really struck me as out of place whenever i’d hear cartoons or a kid laughing. but sadly it wasn’t. half the room was filled with kids who were undergoing treatment. most were just kids being kids, not understanding what was happening, their parents just trying to see them happy. but, i remember one kid especially. the kid who was before me on the radiation platform. i remember that sometimes i’d have to wait longer because he was so scared he would wet himself on the bed. and i remember that he loved carrie underwood. “jesus take the wheel” was usually playing when i’d put the headphones on. i don’t know his name, but i still think about him. and that waiting room. no kid should ever have to feel that scared.
THAT kid, and every other kid with cancer is why i am doing this. i believe it is important.

A challenge among friends 25 years ago has become the largest volunteer movement to Conquer Kids’ Cancer. This year, I’m joining thousands of others to shave my head to raise money for childhood cancer research!
Did you know, 1 in 5 kids diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. won’t survive? For those who do, more than 96% have severe or life-threatening conditions by the time they are 50.
Each shaved head, every dollar donated, creates a ripple effect of progress for kids with cancer.
Your gift will give kids and their families hope, supporting the best research across the country, through the largest charity funder of childhood cancer research grants, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
Together, let’s give these kids the lifetime they deserve. Thank you for your support!
