Why am I shaving my giant head with St. Baldrick’s?
The hospital where I received my radiation was also a pediatric cancer center. Walking through those doors day after day and seeing the play room, the toys, stuffed animals, games, etc., was more than enough to grab my attention; however, seeing the kids, some of them still in strollers, and their parents was absolutely heartbreaking.
I was lucky enough to walk into that facility on my own and then walk out when I finished treatment with a relatively clean bill of health, but too many of those children will not be so lucky.
I saw this event advertised in a window and decided that this was something I could do that might actually help, at least I hope so.
Below is the "official" message:
Because your donation “on my head” will actually save lives.
Kids with cancer need our support now more than ever. St. Baldrick’s is the largest non-government funder of childhood cancer research grants, and the pandemic has slashed donations, slowing down the progress to find cures.
Cancer kills more of our kids than any other disease. Research can change that, and I don’t want to let these kids down. Can you help? Thank you so much!
