My name is Matthew Serchay and this will be my 6th year shaving my head. I I I continue to shave my head year after year in honor of my cousin Logan Cruz who has no Evidence of Disease and in Memory of Reagan Mize who passed away November 8, 2020 from Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Gliomas which is a inoperable and terminal Brain cancer.
On August 10 2017, my cousin Logan was diagnosed with T-cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia. This hit very close to home for the Cruz/Serchay family and Logan is only 9 months older then me. As a result of chemo, He lost all his hair and it was hard to see him not being to hang out with us as he wasn't feeling well. As such I wasn’t gonna let my cousin be alone in this fight and in March of 2018 at the young age of 10 I started shaving my head to support Logan and be by his side for support. To this day many Kids (especially now that I am in High School) and even Adults will make fun of me for my decision to shave my head, However I hold my head up high as I know I am making the right choices and am doing the right thing by supporting what is right.
You ask why am I shaving my head with St. Baldrick’s? To answer your questions is it brings much needed awareness & funds to pediatric cancer .Did you know, 1 in 5 kids diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. won’t survive? For those who do, more than 96% have severe or life-threatening conditions by the time they are 50 and Cancer kills more kids than any other disease.
Because with your donation “on my head,” together, we can save lives. Each shaved head, every dollar donated, creates a ripple effect of progress for kids with cancer. Your gift will give kids hope, supporting the best research across the country, through the largest charitable funder of childhood cancer research grants.
Together, let’s give these kids the lifetime they deserve. Thank you for your support!
Thank you
Matthew
