Why am I shaving my head?
A challenge among friends 25 years ago has become the largest volunteer movement to Conquer Kids’ Cancer. This year, for the second time I’m joining thousands of others to shave my head to raise money for childhood cancer research!
As a young adult starting my career in education I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. I was one of the very fortunate few in that it did not have a long term detrimental effect on my life, future or finances... However, in my career since then I have known and built reationships with multiple young people, children, who have not been as fortunate as I. I know first hand how a cancer diagnosis affects family, a child's quality of life, and the strain it puts on those who love and support these children.
This cause is near to my heart. I know that every dollar donated and spent finding ways to treat childhood cancer, and make it more manageable for hese children and their loved ones is a dollar well spent!
1 in 5 kids diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. won’t survive? For those who do, more than 96% have severe or life-threatening conditions by the time they are 50.
Each shaved head and every dollar donated creates a ripple effect of progress for kids with cancer.
Your gift will give kids and their families hope, supporting the best research across the country, through the largest charity funder of childhood cancer research grants, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
Together, let’s give these kids the lifetime they deserve. Thank you for your support!
