Why am I shaving my head with St. Baldrick’s? Because your donation “on my head” will actually save lives. Please, give a few dollars to support kids who are dealing with situations that most of us have never even dreamed of confronting.
I had a minor personal experience with cancer due to a carcinoma issue. Even though it never reached any serious levels, it still freaked me out. Thanks to an overactive imagination and the wonders of Google, I was aware of every possible scenario - and 99 percent of those were awful (though probably less than one percent likelihood). As of now, all’s good for me, but I’m ready for the next thing to be chopped off my body.
I’ve also had multiple family members with cancer issues. It’s incredibly scary for all.
However, I’ve never known a kid with cancer. If it’s scary for me, what’s it like for a 16-year old, an 11-year old, a 6-year old, younger?
I’ve come across the St. Baldrick’s event multiple times and I’ve read quite a bit about the foundation – it’s the largest non-government funder of childhood cancer research grants, and the pandemic has slashed donations, slowing down the progress to find cures. I believe it actually makes a difference and it makes “honest” efforts to spend donated funds in a responsible way.
So if you have some extra money, please consider donating – and I’ll share some pictures of me with no hair!
