I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I am shaving my head for the 5th time to raise money for childhood cancer and supportive care research!

My friend, Matthew who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Leukemia, called AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia) in 2009, inspired me to start raising money for childhood cancers through St. Baldrick's. He endured years of chemo, radiation, a bone marrow transplant and lots of other medicines. I am very happy to say that he is cancer free and a sophomore in high school!

Remember, even for kids who survive, the battle is not over. A recent study shows that because of the treatments they had as kids, by the time they’re 50, more than 99% of survivors have a chronic health problem and 96% have severe or life-threatening conditions. So, in addition to finding cures, a lot of research is focused on preventing the lifelong damage that results from surgeries, radiation and chemotherapies given while young bodies and brains are just developing.

That’s why St. Baldrick’s also funds research to improve supportive care for patients.  Thank you for your support!  Bruce
