I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

This is my 12th consecutive year shaving my head and raising money for St. Baldrick’s.

12 years ago, I decided to join some work colleagues and shave my head to raise money for kids cancer research. I mean it was pretty simple, just raise some money, shave my head, and feel good about myself for a little while. I mean nobody wants kids to die from cancer, and shaving my head is a goofy thing that reminds me not to take myself too seriously. I probably needed a haircut anyway. Win-win, right?

When a cancer survivor spoke at the first event I attended, it was really nice and uplifting, but there was also father there who lost a child to cancer, and that was hard to see. I continue to do this every year not to feel good about myself for being charitable, but as a reminder of how lucky I am and that many people are not so lucky. It’s a small sacrifice to remind me to be grateful.

This is a great organization that funds some terrific research, including some that has led to real world treatments. I will definitely be donating to St Baldrick’s myself, and I hope you will consider a donation and perhaps be inspired by my beautiful baldness! Thanks for reading!
