I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Snow Angels

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Snow Angels

I started this journey 21 years ago on somewhat of a dare. My dear friends David and Debbie Wittman mentioned this small event going on in St. Louis at Helen Fitzgerald's where people were shaving their heads in solidarity with children who lost their hair going through chemotherapy treatments and honoring those families who have been touched by these horrible diseases. I gladly took the challenge as my dear friends lost their 2-year-old son Markie to a cancer known as neuroblastoma. Shaving my head was a small gesture and the very least I could do, but it has since grown to become a part of who I am.  I'm blessed... I have two healthy children and I am truly blessed that I've never had to deal with the pain, the struggles, the hardships that these families go through. The very least I can do is to continue to raise awareness, raise money and lose some hair each year and hopefully we will someday find a cure.

Thank you for reading my story and supporting my 21 year journey. I've learned a lot about childhood specific cancers, I've met some incredible nurses, doctors, families and children in the fight along the way. I've heard stories on some of the most wonderful victories and the absolute crushing losses. We are winning the fight. Progress is being made and this small event has now become the largest contributor to childhood cancer research outside of government funding thanks to all of you.

Markie T. always in my heart...
