My name is Jonathon Heffner and I am a Firefighter/Paramedic in SWFL. I am honored to have been chosen to represent South Trail Fire Protection & Rescue Service District in our community’s efforts to raise money for the fight against childhood cancer. You can reach out to anyone, and I am positive that they have known someone that is battling cancer or was diagnosed with cancer. For those that have experienced or watched the daunting effects of the chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery – you know the toll it takes on the individual. Tragically, children are faced with these difficult battles. The effects of the chemotherapy cause a myriad of side effects sadly includes so many physical effects, including hair loss. To call the side effects unpleasant would be a drastic understatement. I am shaving my head to show the children their community’s support, their firefighter’s support and that hair never defines true beauty, worth, or strength. One thing I have learned as a firefighter/paramedic is that everyday is an opportunity to be a blessing to someone else. Life becomes more purposeful when you are doing something for someone else.
