I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Grateful4Research

I have shaved my head to support the St. Baldrick’s Foundation before, but this is my first time since my son Peter’s diagnosis and subsequent treatment for osteosarcoma.

Peter endured what no kid should face: 19 rounds of chemotherapy, 4 unplanned emergency room visits, somewhere around 90 nights in the hospital, 2 major surgeries (the first removing not just the tumor but also 10.5” of his right femur), and over 16 months navigating on crutches as his leg healed. His diagnosis was this mother’s worst fears realized. It hurt me to watch my son suffer, and there were dark days and nights for our family.

We are fortunate: Peter has now had four clear quarterly scans since completing the grueling treatment. He has returned to school, seeing friends, and other normal teenager stuff. He’s applying for his first job and learning to drive. His treatment regimen was based on science and the best research to date. More work is needed, though, and your donation can help fund future research to help other kids like Peter.

Kids with cancer need our support now more than ever. St. Baldrick’s is the largest non-government funder of childhood cancer research grants, and the pandemic has slashed donations, slowing down the progress to find cures.

Cancer kills more of our kids than any other disease. Research can change that, and I don’t want to let these kids down. Can you help? Thank you so much!
