I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Schaumburg Firefighters Local 4092

This will be my 12th time shaving my head for this awesome cause!  We are all aware of cancer; it's not like it is some obscure secret disease.  We are all so aware of it in fact, that I doubt a single one of us hasn't been affected by cancer in one way or another.  Everyone knows someone, a parent, a sibling, a friend, a spouse, that has had to battle cancer.  It is horrible.  We have all watched this disease ravage our loved ones and stood helplessly by as they fight.  For the strongest of us, sometimes we are no match for it.  And for the most fragile, the most innocent, our children, this disease is so much worse than a battle.  It is unfair.  It is uncaring.  It is unacceptable.

We've also all heard the statistics so often that they can tend to fade into the background noise of our lives.  "Every two minutes, a child is diagnosed with cancer."  I would like to restate that statistic in a way that will hopefully cut through that noise, so please, slow down and really read this:

Every two minutes, a parent finds out that it isn't "someone else's kid this time."

As a parent, I can't think of more terrifying words to hear than "your child has cancer;" nor do I want to.  So, for all of those kids, and for all of their parents, I am doing what little I can to see to it that one day, those words will not carry so much weight, so much fear, so much chaos and uncertainty.  Please, donate to me or my team, or even better, join me!  Let's end this.
