Hey y’all! If you’ve ever had even one small conversation with me, you know that I’m incredibly passionate about raising awareness for childhood cancer. So this year, I have decided to join our “Shaving Lives” team at work for St. Baldrick’s and SHAVE MY HEAD FOR CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS!
I have had the humbling honor of caring for some of the toughest kids in the worst parts of their hardest battles. One of those battles is the physical changes that happen with cancer treatment. So many of our kids are in such pivotal stages of their lives when they are diagnosed when it comes to peer approval and body image issues. Cancer heightens these insecurities x1000. Losing their hair is a harsh reminder of the battles they’re facing, when all they want to feel is “normal”. I remind my patients as often as I can that they are SO much more than the hair on their head or the way that they look on the outside. So I have decided to step way outside my comfort zone and practice what I preach!
Our goal in shaving our heads is to not only bring awareness, but ultimately to fundraise! Childhood cancer research is heartbreakingly underfunded. Only 4% of federal funding for cancer research is used for ALL types of childhood cancer. Donating to St Baldrick’s means that every penny goes straight to researching the monster that is childhood cancer. I’ve set my goal to $1,000, but it would be awesome if we could raise more! So please donate if you feel lead! $1, $10, $100, it all makes a difference for our sweet sweet kiddos ?
