The reason we do this. A message from the founder of the EHS Shave for the Brave, Shannon Petrunak
Dear friends and family,
I hope that you are doing well in our wild world! Thank you so much for donating to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation in 2019 and 2015! Many of you have also contributed to the 2022 Shave for the Brave that is happening this Friday, and I want to thank you so very much for your generosity!
I’m close to reaching my goal, and if there’s any way you can consider a donation, I would truly appreciate your continued support: https://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/Petrunak22
In three days, over 100 people will shave their heads in solidarity with brave children fighting cancer to raise money for pediatric cancer research. Why do I shave? Because of the amazingly resilient kids I was lucky to meet—the honorees who inspire me daily—who are now gone twelve years later:
~ David Heard who gave me a bracelet that reminds me to “Embrace Life” every single day and who shared his own story in front of hundreds of people, forever 10.
~ Joey Sudo who enjoyed playing video games and soccer and whose family all shaved their heads for their brave cousin, forever 12.
~ Zachi Telesha who invented his own superheroes with his wonderful imagination and wrote a comic book Hero Up!, forever 12.
~ Melissa Kavounas, tiny but mighty, whose brother raised more money than anyone to honor his sweet sister, forever 15.
~ Carissa Barrett who loved butterflies (the symbol of hope) and fought so hard with a smile on her face, forever 17.
Cancer changed my family forever when my mom was diagnosed in 2009, but we are blessed that she is a survivor… I want more kids to have the same chance to live long, healthy lives! If you’ve donated, thank you so much—and if now isn’t the right time for you, please check out my page for event history, honored kids, and photos, and send positive vibes our way for nice weather on Friday!
Thank YOU for making a difference, Shannon

I am not this skin.
I am not your expectations.
I am not my hair.
I am not this skin.
I am the soul that lives within.”
