I helped to raise money for childhood cancer research with: LHS Cardinals

Abigail Rivera, from Tela, Honduras, was just an ordinary sweet young girl, who longed to be a nurse.  That was until her life got turned upside down when she was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 11. As a result, she had to have her right leg amputated, and her mother abandoned her at the hospital after supposedly going to look for financial resources for Abi's treatment. Since Abi was then considered homeless, she was transferred to IHNFA, one of the many government-run orphanages in Honduras. Unfortunately, doctors then discovered that Abi was suffering from cancer in one lung, and the orphanage was unable to provide the necessary medical resources Abi required. In August 2013, Students Helping Honduras opened their Children's Home to a group of young girls, and Abi was one of the first to move into the home. Upon new evaluations, doctors gave Abi only two months to live, even with the best treatment she could receive, as the cancer had spread to both lungs. Abigail spent the next 8 months with her "sisters" and Tía Yolanda, a slew of nurses, and a community filled with love and support. On May 10, 2014, Abi passed away in her home in Villa Soleada, surrounded by loved ones, at the age of 12.

Join Students Helping Honduras at Lawrence High School as we raise money to DFY childhood cancer in Abi's memory.
