We are shaving our heads (and in my case, *beards*) to make a difference and we are asking for your help.
On Wednesday, March 11th, OdysseyRe is participating in an industry event known as St. Baldrick’s Day, which helps to raise money for research to cure childhood cancer. Many of us have personal stories of family, friends, or colleagues who have fought or are fighting cancer. What many do not realize is that more children are lost to cancer in the U.S. than any other disease. And worldwide, a child is diagnosed with cancer every three minutes. This disease is a relentless and unforgiving disease that recognizes no group or individual as sacred.
I am dedicating my effort this year to the memory of Kelsey Dickson.
In January of 2014, Kelsey, Andy Dickson’s 10 year old daughter, was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer called Merkel Cell Carcinoma. As a newer type of cancer it was known to inflict only adults typically in their late 70’s or 80’s. Cancer does not discriminate, as Kelsey became the first child in the U.S. to be affected with Merkel Cell, which shocked the medical community. Even with her being given a 20% survival rate, she fought hard and valiantly for 9 months through multiple chemo sessions, drugs, and a clinical trial. Unfortunately, the disease was too devastating to overcome with today’s medicines and treatments. To continue her legacy, the Dickson family’s wish is that someday a cure will be found for this destructive disease, so that the lives of other precious children may be saved.
Please support me with a donation for childhood cancer research.
Thank you!
