I'm shaving my head with St. Baldrick's to raise money and help conquer kids' cancers! Every 2 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer worldwide, and 1 in 5 of those in the U.S. will not survive.
My name is Lyla Fisher and I am 7 years old. This is my first year participating in St. Baldricks, but my older brother Tyson is a veteran! This year will mark his 5th year shaving his head to help fund childhood cancer research.
In the summer of 2017, my mom was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. It was a scary time for our family, but after chemotherapy, radiation, and several surgeries, she now has no evidence of disease.
In 2018, our family was invited to Little Pink Houses of Hope in Lake Tahoe, an organization that supports families through their journey with breast cancer. We met so many amazing families, most of them who also had small children. One of the families we met there was the Harker Parks family. Ashley Harker Parks is a mommy of 4 young children. She is also a Stage 4 breast cancer thriver. In November of 2019, her family received unimaginable news. Their youngest child, Crew, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
I have chosen to shave my head in honor of my friend Crew. He has a long road ahead of him, but he’s tough like his mama! He is currently going through chemotherapy and then he will require a bone marrow transplant. To learn more about Crew’s family and journey, his mom has created an Instagram page documenting his progress: https://instagram.com/ourcrewcancrushcancer?igshid=104effcxpsczx
Now I need your support! Your donation can fund research to help kids survive and thrive. Join me today and let’s #DFYchildhoodCancers together.
