I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: theChive Maryland

I'm shaving my head with St. Baldrick's to raise money and help conquer kids' cancers! Every 2 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer worldwide, and 1 in 5 of those in the U.S. will not survive. I refuse to accept this reality, so I’ve decided to fundraise for lifesaving research to find cures and better treatments for kids.

12 years ago I was diagnosed with cancer, ocular melanoma. I got lucky in that mine was caught early and my doctors were able to save not only my eye but some of my vision in it. Throughout my early years in going to my specialists I've seen many children in the office as well. My doctors have told me that they have had infant patients before, and that even after all their years of practicing it never gets easy for them having to tell a parent that their child has cancer and that they need to take the child's eye in order to get rid of the cancer before it has a chance to spread.

So 4 years ago I started to grow my hair out so that I could donate it and also shave my head at the same time to help raise money to find a cure for cancer, so that parents and doctors don't have to go through the heartache of having to treat young children anymore.

Now I need your support! Your donation can fund research to help kids survive and thrive. Join me today and let’s #DFYchildhoodCancers together.
