I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center

I have worked in pediatric cancer for 16 years. 2019 was one of the most difficult years. 23 of our patients died last year; 7 in the month of September. And for each child that died, 7 other children were diagnosed with a new brain tumor.

Take a moment and try to wrap your head around that.

In addition, my brother-in-law was diagnosed with cancer last February and underwent a stem cell transplant in June. The suffering and loss that families experience when a cancer diagnosis is given is unrelenting.

I’m also a mother now and maybe that’s why this year was more difficult. Whatever the reason, I need to do something more that says “this cannot continue.”

Childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. As in, less than 4% of federal dollars goes to research. Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
