While no one really needs a reason to help raise money for childhood cancer research, I certainly have some very personal ones that are driving me to do my part!
In August of 2017 my youngest son, Rhys, suddenly contracted Infant Botulism at just 3 months of age. It is an extremely rare and life-threatening disease, yet very treatable. While the time in the hospital was terrifying, we had the best possible outcome and thankfully took him back home after nearly a month, fully recovered. Since that experience, I've wanted to do all that I can to help families that are dealing with deadly, dangerous illnesses.
December of 2020 will mark 20 years since my father succumbed to his battle with esophageal cancer. In a mere 2 months from the time of his diagnosis, we had lost him; he was just 57 years old. In these nearly 20 years, I think of, and miss him dearly, and wonder how differently things might have been had any of the incredible medical advances that we now have were available to him back then.
Finally, I was inspired by my friend, Meredith Schwartz, who has twice shaved her head for St. Baldrick's and has raised an incredible amount of money. Her charity and courage are moving!
I plan to meet, and ideally exceed, my fundraising goal of $7,500 which will help make a big difference in the battle against childhood cancer.
Now I need your help! Please make a donation! Every dollar will make a difference in the lives of thousands of infants, toddlers, teens and young adults forced to fight for their lives!
